Kalamkari sarees are globally renowned for their elegance and rich heritage that dates back to the medieval times. Kalamkari is a type of hand-painting or block-printing on cotton or silk textile, handcrafted in the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Kalamkari craft includes minute details of a story telling is painted using natural dyes.

The vibrant and vivacious prints fall beautifully on a buttery soft drape called Chennuri Silk from Telangana. Kalamkari cotton is also most loveable for its evergreen elegant style statement.

Origin - As an art form it found its peak in the wealthy Golconda sultanate, Hyderabad, in the Middle Ages. The Mughals who patronized this craft in the Coromandel and Golconda province called the practitioners of this craft "qualamkars", from which the term "kalamkari" evolved. Kalamkari is a Persian word that is a combination of two words. 'Kalam' which means pen and 'kari' which means artwork or craftsmanship. This literally translates to mean drawing with a pen.

Color may vary slightly from the image due to the screen brightness.

Every article is handcrafted hence unevenness in the selvedge and weave could be expected and colors may fade or bleed due to the traditional dyeing technique applied. Similarly there may be little variation in print and color due to nature of traditional Block Printing Technique.
